Aspiring Leaders' Forum 2009

As we embarked on our fourth annual Forum, we had high expectations. The delegates, who represented a broad range of communities from across New Zealand, were excited, passionate and ready for a challenging experience. The young leaders arrived ready to discuss leadership in a time when New Zealand was faced with the challenge of a struggling economy, health sector, and attempting to deal with issues impacting many families. It wasn't going to be just any 'young leaders' event.

A number of new MPs joined us on the Thursday, representing a wave of new political leadership in New Zealand. We had the privilege of hearing from Nikki Kaye, Chris Hipkins and Kevin Hague on the MP Panel and were inspired by their openness and willingness to share their stories. The MP hosts and seminar speakers also impacted the delegates, giving them the opportunity to discuss leadership 'off the record' and dig a little deeper.

We were also grateful to the spectacular keynote speakers including Trevor Grice from the Life Education Trust, Ron Mark, Paul Blackwell and Principal Murray Burton. We appreciated the time they gave and the insights they shared.

Without a doubt, 2009 brought together a group of young leaders who are passionate, concerned and courageous enough to make a difference in New Zealand. We hope the connections they made at the Forum will last the test of time and help ensure their success. We know that a group of leaders who are passionate about servant-hearted leadership will be able to have a wide and deeply impacting effect on our nation.
